![]() ![]() Now, the core issue is that to an extent, the game is built to allow this. You’ll see tanks not mitigating, healers not DPSing at moments where the group is topped up, DPS using group damage cooldowns or defensives poorly if at all, and the like. There are a lot of people who, due to the game’s friendly design, just do not learn how to play effectively. ![]() The refrain “you don’t pay my sub” is often used as a joke on the game’s subreddit, the kind of response you might get to offering play advice in a group scenario. What a lot of WoW players who move over do need to recognize is that while WoW is often plagued with a toxic elitism and a lack of communication, FFXIV has toxic rookie-ness. All of this leads to things feeling pretty light and friendly, because, well, the content is. FFXIV’s highest-end content is…well, we’ll get to that, but that stuff is also done by a relatively small portion of the playerbase, seemingly. The base raiding difficulty? It’s pretty much LFR level of difficulty – you can wipe, but a few weeks into a patch a wipe takes a lot of effort to get to. Dungeons in FFXIV – not particularly hard. The focus of FFXIV is on simple, repeatable content designed around tentpole story content. I think that is overall true – my general play experience with other people is both more involved and more friendly and light than that of WoW. The Community – It’s Really Good, But Expect Other IssuesĬoming from WoW, the thing people so often and consistently say, such that it is a meme, is that FFXIV has a better community. However, there are some things that FFXIV does worse than WoW, or simply just isn’t good at, and some things that I think get overblown or overpushed by people who are having fun in FFXIV. There are perceptions of FFXIV being so much better in so many ways, and I think on the whole, it is. Whether you're a new player or returning to Eorzea after a little break, there really isn't a better time to experience Final Fantasy 14 for yourself. This post is one I think a lot of people moving from WoW to FFXIV should see, because the current narrative is very much one of a pristine and amazing FFXIV experience compared to the gaming dystopia of World of Warcraft. It might take you potentially hours to get into the MMORPG in the first place – hell, you can't even get into the game at all right now if you're a brand new prospective player – but what awaits you after is a vast and welcoming player base, Dungeons with hordes of players chomping at the bit to squad up, an enthralling new storyline and subsequent lands to explore, and so much more. Just over a month from Endwalker's launch, Final Fantasy 14 has arguably never been in better shape than it has been right now. It's pretty hard to detach Final Fantasy 14's current health with its immediate future, considering it's on the cusp of embarking on a brand new journey. There'll no doubt be new characters to befriend, new allies to save, new gear to earn, and so much more. Bountiful as its offerings are, the MMO is continuing over the coming year with a brand new storyline, picking up after Endwalker's climatic events. Not taking into account Final Fantasy 14's immediate future, even when looking at the current state of the game, would be a huge oversight. There's simply no shortage of activities to enjoy in Final Fantasy 14 right now. If you've yet to delve into Endwalker's offerings, there's well over 50 hours of main plot to soak in, multiple new regions to explore with engaging side quests and characters, eight brand new Dungeons, three new Trials, the new Pandaemonium Raid, and more set to arrive in the coming months. Endwalker has somehow taken 11 years of worldbuilding, storylines, and characters, and wrapped them up in one neat bow, rounding out Final Fantasy 14's comeback from disaster launch over a decade ago to a mega-hit for Square Enix. As we wrote in our Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker review, the new expansion affirms Final Fantasy 14 as one of the best games in the historic series, and possibly the greatest MMO ever made. All this, and we haven't even touched on Endwalker itself. ![]()
