![]() ![]() There are three important airports in Sicily. The island attracts tourists all year round, but summer time is the busiest time of the year. The fishing industry is mainly focused on tuna and sardines. This grape has made a truly triumphal procession around the world and has its origin in the south-east of Sicily. The wines of the island are world-famous, especially the ones made of the Nero d'Avola grape. ![]() The island is known as the granary of Italy and also produces citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, limes), olives, almonds and (wine)grapes. Sicily has an extremely productive soil and therefore agriculture plays an important role in the local economy. The island has a triangular shape the original Roman name for Sicily was Trinacria. Sicily is separated from the southern Italian region Calabria by the Strait of Messina. Sicilians are proud on their island and when asked for their nationality they often respond 'Sicilian' and not 'Italian'. Almost one quarter lives in and around the major cities Palermo and Catania. Sicily has more than 5 million inhabitants. The Greeks were the first inhabitants of the island. Tourists not only visit the island to enjoy the sun, sea and beach, but also to sniff some culture because Sicily has many relics from the Ancient Greek Times. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. While the area around Modica is prettier, we found Villa Dora a great base from which to explore this corner of Sicily and the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine and plate of antipasto at the end of the day.Most popular car hire locations in Sicily The setting is a quiet rural area, about 3km from the town of Rosolini which has supermarkets, bakeries etc and does observe siesta (1pm - 4pm) so you will need to work around that if you want to explore the town. The garden is beautifully done, with lots of grass areas for children to play and the 250+ year old olive trees in the backyard add an amazing sense of history. ![]() The 3rd bedroom downstairs is a double bed and a smaller room but was fine for us for our 8 night stay. Make sure you bring bug spray, though! The two main bedrooms upstairs are good size and the family bathroom upstairs is also roomy and well stocked with towels. We lived outdoors mainly under the shade of the covered verandah. The living area is large and open and there are several dining areas to chose from - we mostly ate outside on the verandah which wraps around two walls of the house. It was great to come back to the lovely pool after a hot day of exploring Noto, Ragusa and Modica. The photos don't do this lovely home justice - it is spacious and lovingly presented by the owners who met us to show us around and provide the keys. Die Villa verfügt außerdem über Heizung, W-LAN, Sat-TV und Waschmaschine. Im Nebenhaus befindet sich eine zweite Landküche komplett mit Grill und Holzofen. Eine Marmortreppe mit Eisengeländer führt hoch in den ersten Stock, in dem ein Doppelzimmer mit kleiner Terrasse, ein Zimmer mit französischem Bett und ein Bad mit Dusche liegen. Im Erdgeschoß befinden sich ein Wohnzimmer mit Kamin, eine gut ausgestattete Mauerküche, ein Doppelzimmer und ein Bad. Das zweistöckige Haus ist vor kurzem gebaut worden. Ein gepflegter Garten mit englischem Rasen ist um das Haus angelegt mit einer großen Terrasse und einem wunderschönen Infinity-Pool mit Hydromassage. Die Villa in ruhiger und sonniger Lage hat eine wunderschöne, entspannende Sicht auf das umliegende Land mit den typischen hundertjährigen Oliven-, Johannisbrot- und Zitronenbäumen der typischen ländlichen Gegend. Villa Dora ist ein wunderschönes Landhaus mit Swimmingpool im Südosten Siziliens zwischen den Orten Ispica und Rosolini. ![]()
